Whitney Houston "well" despite rumours
Pop singer Whitney Houston's spokeswoman on Thursday has denied rumours that the she had died of an overdose.

"Whitney Houston is fine. This is a rumor and it's not true. She thanks everyone for their concern. She is fine and at home with her family," spokeswoman Nancy Seltzer said.

Houston, 38, performed during the tribute concert for Michael Jackson last Friday, when observers commented on her seemingly emaciated condition.

She did not appear on the second night of the tribute the following Monday.


Sean Penn joins Friends

Sean Penn is to join the cast of NBC comedy Friends for a number of episodes - as the boyfriend of Ursula, the twin sister of Lisa Kudrow's character Phoebe.

The twice Oscar nominated actor - hardly known for comedy roles - is expected on the Friends set this week.

It will be his first guest TV spot since 1994, when he played himself on both Ellen and The Larry Sanders Show.

The next series of Friends starts on 20 September, and it is believed that Penn's episodes will be broadcast in November.


Emmerdale star's son dies

The son of Emmerdale star Stan Richards, who plays Seth Armstrong in the soap opera, has been killed in a car accident.

Irvin Richardson, 36, died after his Ford Fiesta swerved off the M62 into a field near Goole, East Yorkshire, after overtaking a motor home on Sunday.

Humberside police said that Mr Richardson, who leaves a wife and baby daughter, was cut free from the wreckage but was declared dead at the scene.

A spokesman for Emmerdale said: "Stan has been deeply affected by this tragedy and the thoughts of everyone involved with the show are with him at this very sad time."


Kidman 'to star in Clooney film'

Moulin Rouge star Nicole Kidman is to star in a new film with George Clooney, it has been reported.

The film, which Clooney will also direct, is called Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind, said Daily Variety.

The former ER star will play a CIA agent, with Kidman as his love interest.


British tenor sings for Star Trek

Russell Watson, the British tenor who has been at the top of the UK classical album charts, has become the first person to sing a theme tune for Star Trek.

The song is called Faith In My Heart and is taken from the singer's new album Encore which will be released at the end of October.

The track will be used for the opening credits of the new 26 part series, Enterprise, which opens in the US later this month and will be shown on Sky One in the UK in February.

Star Trek has always used instrumental theme tunes in the past.


Taylor writes a gem

Dame Elizabeth Taylor is writing a book about her jewellery collection.

The book, which will contain 100 photographs and stories about her friends and lovers relating to the jewels, will be published by Simon & Schuster in 2002.

The actress's collection is thought to be one of the most valuable private collections in the world and includes pieces from Bulgari, Cartier and Schlumberger.

"I'm so excited to be able to share the moving, funny and beautiful memories behind these pieces of jewellery," she said.
