Behr: I'll make Saturday 'sexy'
Dani Behr and Joe Mace

The BBC has revealed details of its new children's show which will line up against Ant and Dec in the Saturday morning ratings war.

The CBBC programme Live And Kicking has suffered from competition from ITV's SM:tv Live, hosted by Ant and Dec - Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly.

I have never done children's TV, mostly because I do not like being a patronising and cheesy presenter

Dani Behr
The new programme - called simply The Saturday Show - will be fronted by Dani Behr and Joe Mace, presenter of Top Of The Pops Plus.

The Saturday Show will be broadcast from 0900-1200, starting on 22 September.

'Older audience'

At Monday's programme launch presenter Dani Behr said that the new show would be more adult than Live And Kicking.

Ant and Dec: A hit with young audiences
"We have to cater for both kids and the 30- and 40 year-olds who are in bed watching."

Behr, 26, who was previously known for presenting late-night pop programme The Word, denied her lack of children's TV experience would be a problem.

"I think I have been chosen exactly because I am not kids TV and people know that through my live TV experience.

"I have never done children's TV, mostly because I do not like being a patronising and cheesy presenter, it is not my thing.

'Big fan'

"If I do this show I can talk to them like I talk to adults and the contents of the show can be for everyone."

At the launch Joe Mace spoke of his admiration for his ITV rivals: "I am a big fan of Ant and Dec.

"We thank them for opening the door to a bigger audience and an older audience and I guess that is why this show looks the way it does."

Ant and Dec have regularly achieved audiences of 2.5 million for ITV on Saturday mornings.

Behr said that she was confident the new BBC programme would provide stiff competition.

"We think our show is bigger and better and sassier and sexier and more stylish," she said.
