In pictures: Adieu to Aaliyah
Mourners have attended a private mass for the Grammy-nominated star Aaliyah, who died in a plane crash in the Bahamas on Saturday.
Boxer Mike Tyson, singer Gladys Knight and singer P Diddy were among mourners for the service at the Frank E Campbell Funeral Home. Afterwards a horse-drawn hearse carried the singer's coffin to the St Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church in New York, where hundreds of fans gathered for the funeral.
![]() The funeral mass was private, attended by some 100 family members and friends.
![]() The Frank E Campbell Funeral Home also handled arrangements for John Lennon, Notorious B.I.G and Jacqueline Onassis
![]() A book of condolence has been set up at the funeral home for fans and well-wishers to sign
![]() A daylong memorial event for the public also was being held near Grand Central Station
![]() Aaliyah's mother, Diane Houghton, led the mourners along with the singer's brother Rashad
![]() Shatika Wallace of New Jersey held a poster of Aaliyah and cried as she waited for the funeral procession
![]() White doves were released - one for each of the singer's 22 year-old years - outside St Ignatius Loyola Church in New York
