Manson wins Kerrang! honour
![]() Marilyn Manson, right, arrived with Dita Von Tesse
Controversial rocker Marilyn Manson has won a best album award at the annual Kerrang! Awards held in central London.
Manson picked up the award for his latest release, Holywood, at the event, the main awards ceremony for the heavy metal industry. "Nothing like a good school shooting to inspire a record," Manson told the audience as he collected his award. The heavy metal star was mired in controversy in 1999 after reports that the students who carried out the Columbine High School shooting in Denver were fans of his and could have been influenced by his music.
He is currently under investigation in the US after a security guard complained of alleged sexual assault at a recent gig in Michigan. The rocker's on-stage antics - reputed to include sex acts and smoking human bones - have caused uproar in the US, propelling him to mainstream fame. The award caps a successful trip to the UK for Manson, who headlined with rapper Eminem at the Leeds and Reading festivals and Glasgow's Gig on the Green. But he missed out on the title of Best Band in the World, which went to American shock band Slipknot. The band are well known for their habit of wearing masks and vomiting and urinating on each other during their stage performances. Other winners at the ceremony included Welsh band Feeder who collected the Best British Live Act award and US star Papa Roach, who was named the Best International Live Act. Legendary rocker Iggy Pop, 54, was invested into the Kerrang! Hall of Fame. Full list of winners:
