Lifehouse: Have sold 1.5 million albums in the US
Lifehouse are at the head of a new wave of American alternative rock bands who have already taken their home country by storm and are now in the process of becoming worldwide stars.

Lead singer Jason Wade, along with bassist Sergio Andrade and drummer Rick Woolstenhulme, have already had chart success with their single Hanging By A Moment.

They tell BBC News Online about their musical turn-ons.


What types of music did you listen to when you were younger?

Jason: Michael W Smith and Amy Grant.
Rick: All types, mostly jazz.
Sergio: Urban, R&B and top 40.

What was the most recent album you bought?

Jason: Ours and Parachutes by Coldplay.
Rick: Ours and Radiohead.
Sergio: Coldplay.

Are there any songs that get you fired up to go on stage or go into the studio?

Jason: Enya.
Rick: Tiny Dancer by Elton John.
Sergio: Soundtracks and mellow stuff.

Where do you most like listening to music - and why?

Jason: My car. You feel separated from the world and in your own little world.
Rick: Home, to create a vibe and just relax.
Sergio: I like to listen to music in my car, because I have a good system in it.

Are there any songs you can't listen to because they remind you of something you would rather forget? Can you say what it is?

Rick: I Think Were Alone Now by Tiffany. I was chasing a girl who didn't like me!
Sergio: Chumbamumba song. Sorry, but it's what I heard when I broke up with my chick.
Jason: No.

What song always makes you cry?

Jason: Yesterday by the Beatles.
Rick: I don' t cry, I'm a tough guy.
Sergio: Careless Whisper by Wham.

Which song by another artist do you wish you had written?

Jason: Elliot Smith's Miss Misery.
Rick: Yesterday - The Beatles.
Sergio: Pink Cadillac by Aretha Franklin.

Do you prefer listening to a CD or going to a gig? Why?

Jason: I like the energy of a live show, I like the intimacy of a CD.
Rick: Both.
Sergio: I don't prefer either. I think they're two completely different things.

Which song from the past 12 months is most likely to gain classic status?

Jason: Ms Jackson by Outkast.
Rick: Oops I Did It Again - Britney Spears.
Sergio: None.

Do you listen to any British artists?

Jason: Yes, Coldplay, Travis and Radiohead.
Rick: Radiohead, Travis, Supergrass, Coldplay.
Sergio: Radiohead and Coldplay.

Is Britain a harder market to crack than the US?

Rick: Not necessarily harder, just different. But I wouldn't know because we haven't cracked it yet.
Jason: Yes.
Sergio: I don't think they are very different from each other.

If you organised a festival, who would have as headline and supporting acts?

Jason: Radiohead would headline the event, with Incubus opening the event.
Rick: U2 would headline the event, with Radiohead opening the event.
Sergio: U2 to headline, and supporting them would be The Black Crowes and Aerosmith.
