All Saints split rumoured

The British girl band All Saints, are rumoured to be the verge of splitting up.

Some newspapers have reported that a rift between singers Shaznay Lewis and Melanie Blatt has become so deep that it could cause the band to break up.

But the band's record company, London Records, has fiercely denied the rumours.

"Any stories of the All Saints splitting up are absolute rubbish," said a spokesman.

"The band are about to go into the studio to write and record a new album and then go on tour."

Close friends

Ms Lewis and Ms Blatt are the founding members of All Saints and have always been very close friends.

But since Ms Blatt became pregnant and engaged to Jamiroquai boyfriend Stuart Zender, things are said to have deteriorated between her and Ms Lewis.

During a recent promotional tour, they are reported to have flown on separate planes and even stayed in different hotels.

Ms Blatt hinted at differences within the band in an interview with GQ Magazine.

She said: "It was always me and Shaznay. I focused all my attention on the band for five years and nothing else.

"But now I've got another life with Stuart - getting engaged, becoming pregnant - I wanted to do all that."

"It must have been hard on Shaznay because we got so far," she said.

Pop history

All Saints were formed in 1994 by Ms Lewis and Ms Blatt. They were originally a three-piece band, but eventually they sacked the third member, and sisters Nicole and Natalie Appleton joined.

They have had two No 1 singles - Never Ever and Under the Bridge - and their debut album reached No 2 in the charts.

The band are all set to release their next single, Bootie Call, on 31 August.
