'NSync celebrate sales surge
'NSync sold 10 times more than this week's number two
Pop band 'NSync's new album has become the second fastest-selling CD ever in America - beaten only by their previous album.
Celebrity sold almost 1.9 million copies in its first week of release, confirming the boy band's place as one of the country's biggest musical acts.
That figure is only by beaten by last year's No Strings Attached, which sold 2.4 million copies in its first seven days. Sales of Celebrity are almost ten times more than those of the band's closest rivals on this week's slbum chart. Battle of boy bands The album includes hit single Pop, which was released last month. The five-piece burst onto the scne with debut 'NSync in 1998 before No Strings Attached was released in March 2000.
Another boy band, The Backstreet Boys, had the fastest-selling CD before 'NSync took the record. New R&B singer-songwriter Alicia Keys is way behind the boy band at number two in the US chart after selling 200,000 copies of her album Songs in A Minor. But 'NSync have failed to repeat such success in the UK. Celebrity reached number 12 in the British album charts, while No Strings Attached peaked at number 14. One member of the band, Justin Timberlake, is also better-known to some for being one half of pop's royal couple - as Britney Spears' boyfriend. |
