Japanese prime minister Junichiro Koizumi
Junichiro Koizumi: Fan of heavy metal and opera
The son of Japanese prime minister Junichiro Koizumi is to follow his father into the limelight - but as an actor, not a politician.

Kotaro Koizumi, 23, has already had several acting auditions and will now focus his efforts on being a success in show business.

His agent said: "Prime Minister Koizumi's son, Kotaro Koizumi, decided to enter the entertainment world with solid determination."

The prime minister enjoys superstar status
His father currently enjoys superstar status, with his rock star looks appearing on merchandise, which is snapped up by supporters of all ages.

He has even found time to write the sleeve notes for a CD featuring songs by one of his heroes, Elvis Presley, since becoming premier in April.

Junichiro Koizumi took custody of his two sons - Kotaro and younger brother Shinjiro - after getting divorced in 1982.

Kotaro is now a university student, and news of his move into the entertainment world caused excitement on the country's morning gossip television shows.

Junichiro Koizumi is currently enjoying high popularity ratings, and his Liberal Democrat party recently triumphed in upper house elections.

The prime minister is a well-known fan of opera and heavy metal music, especially the band X-Japan.

He is also known to enjoy karaoke singing, and is credited with transforming Japanese politics by appealing directly to voters.
