![]() Calista Flockhart: Nominated for best comedy actress
Two drama series have once again dominated the Prime Time Emmy nominations: HBO's The Sopranos and NBC's The West Wing.
Actors from both series have received individual nominations: The Sopranos' James Gandolfini for best actor and Edie Falco and Lorraine Bracco for best actress - and The West Wing's Rob Lowe and Martin Sheen for best actor. Comedy actors nominated included Kelsey Grammer of Frasier, John Lithgow of 3rd Rock From The Sun and Calista Flockhart of Ally McBeal.
Five British actors were among the nominations: Kenneth Branagh for Conspiracy, Ben Kingsley and Hannah Taylor Gordon for Anne Frank, Judi Dench for Last of the Blonde Bombshells and Emma Thompson for Wit. HBO received the most nominations of the TV networks, The Sopranos helping drive it to a leading 94 nominations, followed by NBC with 76, ABC with 63 and CBS with 46. Actor, Drama Series: Andre Braugher for Gideon's Crossing, Dennis Franz for NYPD Blue, James Gandolfini for The Sopranos, Rob Lowe and Martin Sheen for The West Wing. Actress, Drama Series: Lorraine Bracco and Edie Falco for The Sopranos, Amy Brenneman for Judging Amy, Marg Helgenberger for CSI: Crime Scene Investigations, Sela Ward for Once & Again. Actor, Comedy Series: Kelsey Grammer for Frasier, John Lithgow for 3rd Rock From the Sun, Eric McCormack for Will & Grace, Frankie Muniz for Malcolm in the Middle, Ray Romano for Everybody Loves Raymond. Actress, Comedy Series: Calista Flockhart for Ally McBeal, Jane Kaczmarek, for Malcolm in the Middle, Debra Messing for Will & Grace, Sarah Jessica Parker for Sex in the City, Patricia Heaton for Everybody Loves Raymond. Actor, Mini-series or Movie: Kenneth Branagh for Conspiracy, Ben Kingsley for Anne Frank, Andy Garcia for For Love or Country: The Arturo Sandoval Story, Gregory Hines, for Bojangles, Barry Pepper for 61. Actress, Mini-series or Movie: Emma Thompson for Wit, Judi Dench for Last of the Blonde Bombshells, Judy Davis for Life With Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows, Hannah Taylor Gordon for Anne Frank, Holly Hunter for When Billie Beat Bobby.
