BBC explores UK's love for Madonna
Madonna
Madonna's tour comes to Britain on 4 July
BBC One is to make a documentary on Britain's close relationship with the singer - to be shown on the night her tour comes to the UK.

The one-hour programme on 4 July will analyse the continuing adulation of her British fans and the diva's influence on UK pop culture.

Madonna: A British fanbase from early on
It comes at a time when Madonna, 42, is reported to be warning friends not to talk to biographer Andrew Morton, who wrote a controversial biography of Princess Diana and is said to be working on the singer's life story.

By contrast, Madonna has given her blessing to the BBC programme, which will feature interviews with celebrities such as Stella McCartney, Britney Spears, John Paul Gaultier.

Producers William Orbit and Mirwais, singers Kelis, Kim Wilde, Sonia and Sinitta, and journalists Janet Street-Porter and Dominic Mohan also talk about the pop idol.

There's Only One Madonna charts the progress of the cultural figurehead over the last decade in a documentary deliberately orientated to British audiences.

It looks specifically at how she has influenced our music, fashion, style and attitudes - and follows a group of her fans from London to Barcelona to see the opening of her Drowned World tour.

Madonna: Spectacular shows in Spain
Madonna is now on the Italian leg of her European tour after a weekend of concerts in Spain.

Besides performing songs from her recent Ray of Light and Music albums, Madonna has also been singing Holiday, the hit that propelled her to stardom almost 20 years ago.

In a spectacular show, the diva has been appearing as a geisha, a cowgirl, a modern dancer - and has even performed in a kilt.

Madonna is scheduled to conclude the European leg of her tour in London on 12 July, before beginning a sold-out, three-month tour of the United States.
