Fox hints at Spin City return
Michael J Fox
Michael J Fox holds his Golden Globe for Spin City
A year after leaving hit sitcom Spin City to focus on his battle with Parkinson's disease, Michael J Fox has hinted that he may return in a cameo role in the new series of Spin City this autumn.

In the final cliffhanger episode of the last series of Spin City, the new deputy mayor, played by Charlie Sheen, goes to the apartment of Caitlin Moore, played by Heather Locklear, to declare his undying love for her.

However, Locklear has an unidentified man with her. In an interview with US programme Access Hollywood, Fox has suggested that he was the person in that final episode.

Michael J Fox left the show a year ago despite winning a Golden Globe for best comedy actor, in order to set up the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson's research, to pursue increased funding and research for the disease.

Executive Producer

When asked if he would ever return to Spin City, Fox said: "Boy, I'm saying more than I really should, but if anybody saw the final episode, when he walks into her apartment, you don't see what he sees there, so..."

Fox remains an authority on Spin City, remaining an executive producer of the show, set in the Mayor's office in New York.

It is widely believed that Fox's character was based on real life presidential adviser George Stephanopoulos.

Fox left Spin City and his role as New York Deputy Mayor Michael Flaherty at the end of the show's fourth series in May 2000, wanting to leave on his own terms before his disease became too debilitating.

That final episode drew 32.8m viewers, its largest ever audience. Four months later Fox won an Emmy as best actor in a comedy series to add to his Golden Globe.

In the interview he said: "Sometimes I feel great, but I don't look great. Sometimes I look great, but don't feel great. I mean, I have this condition. There's no getting around that."

Fox celebrates his 40th birthday on 9 June, and continues to work in films. On June 3 he attended the premiere of Atlantis: The Lost Empire, the latest Disney animated film. He provides the voice of Milo James Thatch in the movie.
