Evans honeymoons with Billie

Chris Evans and pop star Billie Piper have gone on honeymoon following their secret wedding ceremony in Las Vegas.

The couple tied the knot on Sunday after bringing forward plans to wed at Evans's £6m mansion near Godalming, Surrey, to avoid publicity.

They paid around £235 for the ceremony, which lasted less than 15 minutes, at the Little Church of the West in Las Vegas.

No-one from either of the couple's families was there to witness the event, with only close friends in attendance.

Piper and Evans started seeing each other last December when she went on his Virgin Radio breakfast show to promote one of her singles.

The singer scored her first hit single - Because We Want To - in 1998 when just 15, after she entered a modelling competition in Smash Hits magazine and was talent spotted.

Romance quickly blossomed and the media mogul and singer became inseparable.

Rumours of an impending marriage have been circulating for months despite the age difference between the couple.

Chris Evans has been married previously, to DJ Carol McGiffin in 1991 before he became famous as the original Channel 4 Big Breakfast presenter.

The couple divorced in 1998.

He also has a 12-year-old daughter by former girlfriend Alison Ward.

Virgin Radio DJ Nick Abbot confirmed the marriage on air at 1745 BST on Monday.

'Every happiness'

A spokeswoman for Virgin Radio said: "We are delighted to formally announce that Chris Evans and Billie Piper have married."

"We wish Chris and Billie every happiness and look forward to celebrating with them when Chris returns to the breakfast show next Monday."

The wedding ceremony was conducted by a local minister, the Reverend James Hamilton.

Church manager Greg Smith said the couple looked "ecstatic".

They had six guests including Evans' scriptwriter and friend Danny Baker, who was their best man, he added.

Evans was wearing striped trousers and a green shirt, Mr Smith added, while Billie wore a pink sarong and white cotton blouse with matching flip-flops.

The couple are the latest in a string of celebrities to marry at the Little Church of the West, including Bob Geldof and Paula Yates; Noel Gallagher and Meg Mathews; and Richard Gere and Cindy Crawford.

Painful break-up

News of the couple's engagement was broken in April.

The 18-year-old singer was reported to have proposed to Evans on 1 April, the DJ's 35th birthday, in Paris.

The couple began seeing each other in the wake of Piper's painful break-up with Ritchie Neville of hit boy band 5ive.

Their relationship developed as the singer dealt with a harrowing court case involving a stalker.

Juliet Peters was found guilty of making death threats against the singer but walked free from court with an 18-month prison sentence suspended for two years.
