The World Music Awards have paid tribute to the most popular artists in contemporary music from around the globe.

R&B singer Sisquo presented the show with Scary Movie actress Carmen Electra at a ceremony hosted by Prince Albert of Monaco.

The awards are based on sales and the prizes go to the top-selling recording artists from around the world by genre and by nationality.

Among the winners were three in the best-selling pop category - Britney Spears won female artist, Ricky Martin won male artist and Backstreet Boys were voted top group.
