Madonna's bra fetches £14,000
Madonna's bra
The bra went for way above the expected price
Madonna's famous black satin conical bra worn on her Blonde Ambition world tour has been sold for £14,100 ($20,000) in a pop memorabilia auction.

The Jean-Paul Gaultier creation worn by the pop icon in 1990 had been expected to fetch £3,000.

But it was snapped up at Christie's by the Museum of Fashion and Textiles in Santiago for nearly five times that amount.

The bra was won by a Madonna fan in a competition run by BBC Radio 1 in July 1990.

Beatles memorobilia

Eric Clapton

The Pop and Collectable Guitars sale also featured a wealth of Beatles memorabilia as well as items associated with Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton and Buddy Holly.

A rare page of lyrics in Paul McCartney's hand for The Fool on the Hill, written in on hotel notepaper in 1967 was bought by a private collector for nearly £20,000 ($28,800).

And a pair of wooden drumsticks used by Ringo Starr in 1965 sold for £4,230 ($6,100).

A rare autographed letter sent by John Lennon to an Indian fan during his sojourn in Rishikesh for a course of meditation with the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi went for £9,400 ($14,000).

Buddy Holly's stage outfit

John Lennon responded to the fan's request for money by writing: "If every request like yours was granted - there would be no 'huge treasure' as you call it - All you need is initiative."

Other lots included a collection of guitars, owned by rock luminaries such as Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Status Quo, Pink Floyd, Oasis and Kiss.

A rare ivory coloured two-piece stage suit worn by Buddy Holly fetched £10,575 ($15,240).
