Bridget Jones's top two weeks
The Hole
British horror movie The Hole opened at number four
British romantic comedy Bridget Jones's Diary has held on to the top of the box office chart in the UK and Ireland for a second week.

The film is number one in both the US and the UK and looks set to become the most successful British film ever made, eclipsing Notting Hill.

The UK top three was unchanged on the previous week with Spy Kids and Rugrats in Paris still at number two and three respectively.

British teen horror movie The Hole opened at number four, taking £673,000, in its first three days.

The film revolves around four teenagers at a British private school who secretly uncover and explore a sealed underground hole created decades ago as a possible bomb shelter.

Other new entries in the chart include the Matt Dillon comedy One Night At McCool's, thriller The Tailor of Panama and political drama The Contender which opened at number six, seven and 10 in the chart respectively.

One Night At McCool's is unusual in that it is an American film which has opened in he UK before the states.

Miss Congeniality, starring Sandra Bullock, rounds off the top five.

On Friday US comedy The Mexican, starring Julia Roberts and Brad Pitt, opens nationwide, as does Steven Seagal's action movie Exit Wounds, which was number one in the US.
