McCutcheon back on stage
Martine McCutcheon
McCutcheon has made only 11 appearances
Martine McCutcheon has returned to the stage in My Fair Lady after being forced out by illness.

The actress opened to rave reviews as Eliza Dolittle at the Royal National Theatre in London but made only 11 appearances before pulling out.

Doctors ordered the former EastEnders star to rest following a throat infection and blood clotting problems.

However, it is not expected she will make a permanent return until given the all-clear by doctors.

The 24-year-old will be examined to see how her health has held up after her first performance back.

A spokesman for McCutcheon said: "Martine was allowed to go back on stage by the National's doctor.

"Going back will be a gradual process and she performed under the watchful eye of doctors."

Since McCutcheon went on sick leave her place has been filled by understudy Alexandra Jay.

She received a standing ovation on her first night as leading lady alongside co-stars Jonathan Pryce and Dennis Waterman
