Brando 'takes Scary role'
Scary Movie satirised teen horror and sex films
Hollywood legend Marlon Brando has been lined up to appear in lewd horror spoof sequel Scary Movie 2.
Producers said Brando, 77 - known for tough guy roles such as The Godfather - has agreed to appear in his first "flat-out comic role" as a priest who performs a "supernatural exorcism". The original Scary Movie was one of the silliest, and rudest, films to come out of Hollywood last year - but it was also one the biggest hits of the summer.
A spokesman for Brando - currently to be seen in drama The Score with Robert De Niro and Edward Norton - said he could not confirm the deal. Dimension Films - makers of Scary Movie - issued a statement about the "unprecedented" deal with Brando. "In an unprecedented move, Dimension Films has landed movie icon Marlon Brando in a wild, comedic turn," said the company's co-chairman Bob Weinstein. Scary Movie 2 will, like the first, be directed by Keenan Ivory Wayans and written by his brothers Shawn and Marlon Wayans. Weinstein said Brando agreed to the part after meeting Keenan Ivory Wayans and finding a "kinship with his brand of comedy". Scary Movie satirised teen slasher films such as Scream combined with high-school sex comedies such as American Pie. It had a large ensemble cast, including Shawn and Marlon Wayans and former Baywatch actress Carmen Electra. The film left little to the imagination with a constant stream of lavatorial and a sexual jokes. Scary Movie 2 will again centre around an ensemble cast of young actors including the Wayans brothers together with, Anna Faris, Regina Hall and Tori Spelling and Tim Curry. The film is due for release in the US in July and in the UK in September.
