Rugrats in Paris pulls in more than £1.5m
Children's film Rugrats in Paris has knocked Sandra Bullock's film Miss Congeniality off the top spot at the UK box office charts.

The animated feature, the second film to be based on the popular TV series, took more than £1.5m at the box office at cinemas across the UK and Ireland.

The film features cameo voiceovers from Sandra Bullock and John Lithgow, following the adventures of the troublesome children in the French capital.

The film's box office position was greatly helped by a series of preview screenings, which accounted for half a million pounds of the film's takings.

The first Rugrats movie made more than £69m at the box office worldwide.

Miss Congeniality was at the top of the charts for three weeks.

New release

Sandra Bullock's film took £1.1m between Friday and Sunday at cinemas across the British Isles and has now taken more than £6m in the UK and Ireland.

There was just one other new release in the chart - the romantic comedy The Wedding Planner.

The film stars singer Jennifer Lopez as the proverbial wedding planner who makes the mistake of falling in love with a groom to be, Matthew McConaughey.

It pulled in £915,000 at the box office.

Taiwanese film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon remains in the top 10, 14 weeks after it was released.

The film is at number 10 in the charts and has earned more than £8.5m since release.

Oscar nominees

Chocolat and Traffic, both Oscar-nominated, are at numbers six and seven in the charts respectively.

The long-awaited film adaptation of Bridget Jones's Diary, opens on Friday, as does North America's number one film, Spy Kids.
