BBC wins six broadcast awards
BBC comedy Marion and Geoff
BBC comedy Marion and Geoff wins at the BPG awards
The BBC has won six major honours at the Broadcasting Press Guild television and radio awards.

The landmark series A History of Britain won the best documentary series award while the best single documentary prize went to Panorama's investigation into the bombing of Omagh.

The corporation also took prizes for best entertainment, which went to Marion and Geoff on BBC Two, and the writer's award, again for A History of Britain.

Longitude wins for best single drama
The two radio awards both went to the BBC - Dead Ringers on BBC Radio 4 won radio programme of the year and Nick Clarke from Radio 4's The World at One was named radio broadcaster of the year.

The Channel 4 drama series North Square, which has since been axed by the broadcaster, won four awards, including best drama series and the writer's award.

Phil Davis and Helen McCrory, the stars of North Square - about a group of Leeds lawyers - won the best actor and actress awards.

Comedian Graham Norton, who presents his own show on Channel 4, won the award for best performer.

The Harvey Lee Award for outstanding contribution to broadcasting went to Ted Childs, the ITV producer responsible for Inspector Morse.

Channel 4's Longitude won the award for best single drama while Balaclava on the History Channel won the Multi-channel Award.

The Broadcasting Press Guild is an association of journalists who specialise in writing and broadcasting about the media and has more than 100 members.
