The prosecution has made its final arguments in the case against the rap singer and impressario Sean Combs.

His fans believe that only one verdict is possible
The singer, better known as Puff Daddy, is accused of possessing an illegal firearm, and of trying to bribe a witness.

The prosecution alleges Mr Combs and one of his proteges pulled out their guns after they were insulted in a New York night club in December 1999, leaving three people shot and wounded.

They further allege that Mr Combs tried to bribe his chauffeur into saying the gun was his.

Beyond celebrity

Summing up their case, the prosecution asked the jury to look beyond the rap singer's celebrity.

It was the law which was important, prosecutors argued, not the fame of the person who broke it.

But the defence has insisted the singer's fame and fortune can't be ignored.

It says many of those who have testified against the singer, who is also a producer and clothes designer, were also trying to sue him for vast amounts of money, and cannot be trusted.

The jury is now expected to begin its deliberations sometime on Wednesday, after receiving final directions from Judge Charles Solomon.

Outside the court, Sean Combs' fans say they believe the jury will find him innocent, and warn of protests if he is convicted.
