Lopez topples Fab Four
![]() Jennifer Lopez's film The Wedding Planner is top of the box office charts
J Lo, the latest release from Hollywood actress Jennifer Lopez, has ended The Beatles's eight-week reign at the top of the US album charts.
The 30-year-old star of The Cell, who recently topped the UK singles chart with Love Don't Cost A Thing, sold 272,000 copies in the US last week to put her at Number One in the the Billboard 200. The Beatles's 1 album, a compilation of all the fab four's Number One hits, has sold almost six million copies in the US since its release in late November. Lopez's career is currently at an all-time high with her latest film, The Wedding Planner, also Number one at the US box office. The Wedding Planner, a romantic comedy in which Lopez co-stars with U-571 actor Matthew McConaughey, grossed $13.5m on its opening weekend. Scrutiny Lopez is believed to have earned $9m for her role, making her the highest paid Hispanic woman in film history. The actress has also been asked to present an award at this year's Oscar ceremony on 25 March. But it has not been all good news for the star. Her private life has also been under scrutiny, with her rap star boyfriend Puff Daddy currently on trial in New York for weapons possession and bribery. Despite rumours of an affair with one of the dancers from her Love Don't Cost A Thing video, Lopez has publicly denied that the couple are parting ways. J Lo entered the UK charts at No 2, but was held off the top spot by Limp Bizkit's Chocolate Starfish and The Hotdog Flavoured Water. Her new film the Wedding Planner is released in the UK on 13 April. |
