Ang Lee 'to direct Hulk movie'
Ang Lee
Ang Lee is the toast of Hollywood
Ang Lee, the director of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, is negotiating to take the helm of a movie version of comic character The Hulk, according to reports.

Lee's latest film, Crouching Tiger, has received enormous plaudits both in the UK and the US and the director is now being feted by major Hollywood studios.

The Hulk spawned a 1970s TV series
Discussions for the film version are at an early stage with no production date or cast as yet lined up, according to Variety magazine.

The Hulk was turned into a successful TV series in the 1970s, starring Bill Bixby as the scientist David Banner who transforms into the green-skinned Hulk when he loses his temper.

"Ang will bring the characters and the drama to the foreground, in addition to his visual storytelling ability,'' Gale Anne Hurd, project producer, told Variety.

"I can't think of anyone today who is operating at a higher level across the board,'' Hurd added.

Crouching Tiger is tipped for Oscar success
The producers envisage The Hulk as a lavish, big-budget movie with special effects, Variety reports.

Lee's acclaimed martial arts romance Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon has earned more than $18m (12m) in one month on limited release in the US.

The movie's release will be expanded to 700 cinemas in the US on Friday, to capitalise on the success.
