Lasers look at ancient flint mine
Grimes Graves
The project will give a unique view of Grimes Graves
New technology is revolutionising the work of archaeologists in Norfolk.

A ground-breaking 3D laser scan of the Stone Age flint mines, Grimes Graves, has revealed fresh details of the ancient mine-workings.

Greenwells Pit, a 40-feet deep shaft sealed for preservation, is the first site in the UK to be surveyed to such a level of detail.

Experts hope the venture will create a 3D virtual reality model of Grimes Graves.

The site, on the Norfolk-Suffolk border, was first excavated in 1870 and is one of only 10 flint mines in England.
