(Close): French shares closed higher on Monday, lifted by banks and financial stocks such as Societe Generale and Credit Agricole.

The main Cac 40 index rose 78.2 points, or 2.1%, to 3,785.49.

Sentiment was helped by the G20 finance ministers agreeing over the weekend to keep extra stimulus measures in place.

The luxury goods firm PPR was the best performer after its Puma business released an optimistic earnings statement. ArcelorMittal also rose.
