(Close): Leading French shares rose slightly after a strong performance by Japan's main market, but trading volumes were low on Christmas Eve.

The main Cac 40 index rose 2 points to 3,912.73.

Drinks group Pernod Ricard led the way up, rising 1.6%, closely followed by commercial property giant Unibail-Rodamco, which gained 1.4%.

On the downside, construction group Saint Gobain fell 1%, while Credit Agricole bank also lost ground.
