(Open): Shares in drinks firm Diageo fell 3.9% after the company's half-year results fell short of expectations.

The FTSE 100 index was down 18.73 points at 6,033.56.

Artificial limb maker Smith & Nephew rose 2% after it reported a 9% increase in fourth quarter trading profit.

Rolls-Royce shares were flat after the engineering group reported full-year results. Rolls said the failure of one of its Trent 900 engines in a Qantas A380 jet last year had cost it £56m.
