Wednesday open

Frankfurt

German shares continued on a moderate upward path, following the previous day's gains.

Volumes remained low and profit takers on the prowl after recent strong gains in financial and telecoms stocks.

The Dax was up 11 points at 6,873 by 0900GMT.

The main gainer was DaimlerChrysle, which gained another 1.9% , following yesterday's 2.1%, after the release of positive preliminary full-year results which were broadly in line with expectations.

Allianz was also higher on news that it may be interested in buying Fairchild Aerospace. The shares gained 1.6%.

But Deutsche Telekom, the heaviest weighted stock in the Dax, fell nearly 2% on profit taking.

Paris

French shares rose in light trading.

The Cac-40 index was up 41 points to 5868 by 0900GMT, near its all-time intraday high of 5,901, reached in the previous day's session.

Gains were driven by the technology sector, following the record highs on Wall Street.

Computer software company Cap Gemini and Equant led the share risers
