New collectors post-recession 'boost' to Dubai art market

New collectors are helping to revive the art market post-recession in Dubai and across the UAE generally, auction house Christies said.

Although affected by the recession, the market in the region now has more depth with the new bidders being more selective, William Lawrie, head of sales for Arab and Iranian Art at the company said.

Last month, a painting by an Egyptian painter was sold for $2.4m (£1.6m) at an auction in Dubai - a record price for an artist from the Middle East.
