How to pay for the spiralling cost of final salary pensions in the public sector is one of the biggest challenges ahead for whoever wins the election.

Experts believe the bill could run into hundreds of billions of pounds.

However the issue received only a brief mention in the final party leaders' debate.

Hugh Pym reports.
