'It's a really desperate situation here'

BBC correspondent Malcolm Brabant, who is in Athens, said the Greek people are extremely concerned about the financial crisis facing their country.

Greece's credit rating was reduced to "junk" status, and concern about the country's debt crisis is dragging down stock markets across the world.

Public sector contractors, who could be among the first to lose their jobs, staged a protest outside the Ministry of Finance in Athens.
