Greek PM: Aid a 'national necessity'

The Prime Minister of Greece, George Papandreou, has asked the European Union and the International Monetary Fund to activate a $60bn financial package to rescue its debt-laden economy.

The Greek government says it is expecting the first funds to be available in the next few days.

The decision has sparked protests on the streets.

Gavin Hewitt reports from Athens.
