The doctor's sick note has had its day.

From now on, instead of declaring a patient unfit to work, GPs will be expected to advise employers on what sort of work they can still do.

Human resources consultant Heather Matheson broadly welcomes the move, although she does think it could lead to "conflict between employer and employee".
