Shipping companies hit by downturn

Danish shipping giant AP Moller-Maersk is to report on its annual earnings later. It is expected to have lost almost $1bn in 2009.

Its results are indicative of the container shipping industry as a whole. The industry has been hit hard by the collapse in global trade. Attempts to save money has left many vessels out of service.
