UK food prices continue to rise

Food prices in Britain rose by 2.8% in January, the highest monthly rise for two years, prompting concerns for those on low incomes.

The increase, combined with the unusually cold weather, meant many more people faced the choice between food and heating their homes.

Supermarkets deny passing on the recent increase in VAT to customers.
