Boeing's Dreamliner set for maiden flight

It is two years behind schedule - but if the skies over Seattle are clear later, Boeing's new 787 Dreamliner will finally take off on its maiden flight.

The high-tech jet is vital to the future of Boeing - they hope it will be as revolutionary as the 747 Jumbo 40 years ago.

Delays to the project have meant some customers defecting to rival Airbus - but there are still $140bn worth of orders waiting for the Dreamliner as long as all goes well today - making it the most eagerly awaited Boeing ever.

Duncan Bartlett reports.
