East Germany 'was industrial wasteland'

Today marks the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. The reunification of Germany involved massive investment by the West to revitalise the economy of the East.

But unemployment in Germany's eastern states is still nearly double that in the West and GDP per capita is almost a third lower. So has capitalism brought the benefits it promised?

Terence Roth is from Dow Jones. He was the Wall Street Journal's correspondent in Frankfurt in 1989. The BBC's Sally Buncock asked him what he was doing when the wall came down.
