GM to keep Vauxhall-Opel arm

UK unions have welcomed the decision by US car company General Motors to scrap plans to sell off the European arm of its business to a Canadian firm as previously planned.

GM said it had come to the decision in part because of the importance of the Opel and Vauxhall brands to its global strategy.
