GM cancels Opel sell-off plan

US car company General Motors has cancelled plans to sell Vauxhall and Opel, its British and European divisions, to a Canadian firm, Magna.

The US giant said the decision was based on "an improving business environment for GM over the past few months".

Unite's Tony Woodley said GM's original plans for Opel were better than those developed by the EU, and it was better to be part of a company "coming out of its bankruptcy".
