Chancellor Alistair Darling has been giving details to the House of Commons about changes to Lloyds Banking Group and Royal Bank of Scotland, requiring another injection of tax-payers' money.

Shadow Chancellor George Osborne accused Mr Darling of not even being prepared to put the full figure of £39.2bn before MPs.

Mr Osborne said this was equivalent to £2,000 per family.

He added this was "bigger even than the bail-out last autumn" and a "new world record as the single biggest bail-out of any single bank anywhere in the globe''.
