It is hoped the launch of a new Astra model could secure a future for Vauxhall in the UK.
The car rolled off the production line as union negotiations continue in a bid to save the jobs of thousands of UK workers.
On Wednesday representatives from Unite met the Canadian company Magna which agreed to take over the troubled firm last month. The deal could result in hundreds of job losses at plants in Ellesmere Port and Luton.
The BBC's Nick Ravenscroft spoke to plant director Tom Schmidt, who said the launch of the new model was a positive step for workers.
