Darling calls for curbs on bonuses

Chancellor Alistair Darling has called on bankers to ensure that their pay practices "are responsible".

Mr Darling rejected the idea of specific limits on the amount individual bankers get paid, but called for institutions to balance bonuses against capital needed as a cushion against losses.
