Transport Secretary Lord Adonis has said the government hopes to have a decision on Network Rail's high-speed line proposals by the end of the year.

The national track operator has proposed a new £34bn ($55bn) high-speed railway line linking Scotland and London by 2030.

Lord Adonis said the government had created a company that would report back to it in detail on the proposals.
