UK car sales rose by 2.4% in July compared with the same month last year, the first rise since April last year.

Nikki Rooke from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, said the rise was due to the Government's car-scrappage scheme, which was introduced in May.

The latest industry figures show sales so far this year are still down 22.8% on the same period last year.
