General Motors may relaunch as a new bankruptcy-free business majority owned by the US government on Friday.
It follows a court ruling on Thursday which rejected creditors' objections to the move, allowing the firm to transfer its profitable assets to a new government-backed firm.
But while they may have sailed through bankruptcy the challenges ahead are likely to be tougher.
