Electronics group Sharp is to increase production of LCD television panels at its main Japanese TV factory in order to meet growing global demand.

Sharp, which manufacturers the panels for both itself and other TV-makers, said output would rise by 11% to 100,000 units per month from August.

It said the increase would be achieved by improving production efficiency at the plant.

Sharp is the world's fourth-largest seller of LCD televisions.

The firm is also in the process of starting another LCD plant by October.
