King on slow economic recovery

The Bank of England Governor, Mervyn King, has said that the economy is in for a "slow and protracted recovery".

The latest quarterly inflation report from the Bank of England predicted a 4.5% year-on-year decline in economic growth at its lowest point, worse than the government's projections for a 2009 decline in GDP of around 3.5%.

Mr King added that the timing and strength of the recovery was "highly uncertain".
