Darling confirms 2009 Budget date

Alistair Darling
Mr Darling will deliver his second Budget on 22 April

The 2009 Budget will be held on 22 April, the Chancellor Alistair Darling has announced.

Mr Darling told the House of Commons he would present his Budget statement after the Easter recess.

The unusual late timing for the Budget means it will take place after the G20 summit where leaders will discuss how to tackle the global economic crisis.

The governor of the Bank of England Mervyn King said this week that the UK was "in a deep recession".
