Cable: Recession due to 'policy failure'

Gordon Brown has said he is using every weapon at his disposal to tackle the downturn.

But Vince Cable, from the Liberal Democrats, said the government should stop blaming the recession entirely on the global banking crisis.

"The fact is that we had a boom period that was allowed to run out of control and that was a straight policy failure", he told the BBC.
