How Christmas works: Supermarkets

Large supermarket chains spend almost a year planning for the busy Christmas period, deciding what kind of food they think customers will want to buy.

Asda estimates it will distribute around 9.5 million turkeys in December.

The chain's director of logistics, Doug Gurr, shows us around one of their biggest depots and explains how they calculate how much food they will need for each store.
