Clapham House Group, the owner and operator of the Gourmet Burger Kitchen and Tootsies restaurants, has reported strong growth in sales and profits.

Pre-tax profits for the six months to 28 September more than doubled to £1.5m, from £700,000 a year ago.

Revenue rose 21% to £30.3m, helped by the opening of nine new UK and five overseas restaurants.

The company said it remained "very positive" about its format and medium-term demand for eating out in the UK.

David Page, executive chairman said: "We have worked hard for a year on repositioning our pipeline, managing costs and promoting sales, and feel our business is well positioned."

The company also operates The Real Greek chain of restaurants.
