US carmakers publish rescue plans

Chrysler, Ford and General Motors have all submitted proposals to US Congress for loans of $34bn (£22.8bn; 26.8bn euros) upon which their survival could depend.

Sales at all three of the carmakers have plunged as consumers curb their spending in the face of the economic downturn.
